A Clean Healthy Bathroom

A healthy home environment is something that all parents want for their children. Each and every room in the house has the potential to harbor nasty bacteria and germs, most definitely the bathroom is no exception. Although it has been said that the kitchen actually harbors more germs, the bathroom is the most obvious room when we think of germ laden surfaces to clean and keep our families healthy. While we often make quick trips that last only minutes in the bathroom, the germs and bacteria linger long after our business is finished and we're out of there.

The obvious toilet-Wiping off the toilet seat, under the lid and around the floor with a disinfecting cleaner every day or so is a must for a clean bathroom. More frequent wiping is necessary if a little boy is still learning to aim! This is especially necessary due to the fact that every time the toilet is flushed, mists of water vapor cloud up from there and settle on nearby surfaces-a definite point for closing the toilet lid before each flushing.

The bathtub and shower-- Bacteria and germs have a field day in such warm, moist places. A field day that is magnified every time more germs are sloughed off into the area. To stop germy breeding, be sure to completely dry all tub toys and rinse the tub after each use. Turning on the exhaust fan or opening a window following a bath or shower will allow fresh air flow that will inhibit the growth of bacteria and germs, including mold.

Toothbrushes-While these things are great for cleaning teeth, they're germ magnets and great germ spreaders. Be sure each person in your family has their own toothbrush and does not share with anyone else. When storing toothbrushes, don't let them touch each other and replace them with new brushes often.

Towels-- Every time your dry your face, hands or any body part on a towel, you leave behind germs in a damp home just perfect for breeding of those germs. Be sure to hang up all towels, allowing them to dry fully. Ideally, issue every family member their own towel to use and hang to dry, washing them regularly to rid them of bacteria.

All surfaces-It's a good germ fighting practice to wipe down every single surface in the bathroom on a regular basis with a disinfecting cleaner. Door knobs, cabinet handles, faucet handles, tub, shower, toilet, walls, all of these surfaces can harbor all sorts of bacteria and germs, so be sure and get them all sparkly every few days.

A healthy home is a happy home for all.
