A Close Study of the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S

Goodyear Wrangler AT/S Review

Willie Powell
With aggressive design the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S provides more than average traction if you like to go for occasional off-road tours. The Wrangler AT/S also has a "mud and snow" rating which makes it a good radial for the mushy road conditions. Putting in a different way, the trad design of the radial provides the necessary bite to keep the vehicle rolling on mud and snow situation. The traction for AT/S is increased by the deep-lugged tread. The additional bite for mushy conditions is provided by the tread wrapped around shoulder on to sidewall. Parallel grooves connect a deep grooves pair to the sidewall which helps in shedding water during rainy days.

It is because of these deep grooves that the radials decrease the risk of hydroplaning when the tyres roll on water cushion instead of pavement contact. The broad footprints of the tread increase the traction of the radials.

Right below the tread, the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S has four plies, two of which are reinforced by steel chords and two by polyester chords. The sidewall has two plies which have polyester chord reinforcement. Whether the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S comes with serrated black lettering or white outline letters (G-O-O-D-Y-E-A-R) depends on the size that you are opting for. The Wrangler AT/S last on an average for 67,000 miles and does well on various road conditions including the dust roads, rocky roads and even winter snowy roads.

The Goodyear Wrangler AT/S shows good stability on the wet roads. The AT/S are not rated using the UTQG (Uniform Tyre Quality Grading) as a result of which, the radials do not show any information on tread wear, temperature and traction. The radials are rated with Range C for loads. The radials are comparatively noisier on pavements which are dry because of the fact that rubber is hard and the treads are aggressive.

The all-terrain radials from Goodyear do not come with any kind of warranty. However, the tyres are quite long-lasting and they are recommended for those who need more traction for occasional off-pavement driving. However, if you like to stay on the roads, you are recommended to opt for the radials which are less noisy. If you like to stay off-pavement most of the time, these radials are not designed to tolerate the ruggedness of the terrains for long. It is better that you goo for alternatives with maximum traction.
