A Closer Look at the Negative Calorie Diet

You have most likely heard about people who obsessively count their calories in order to lose weight. Some people will even tell that, irregardless of how much fat you might intake, you will still be able to lose a good amount of weight if you decide to cut your calories. Burning a higher amount of calories in any day than the amount of calories which you take in is the reason that counting calories is known to work. However, have you ever heard about counting negative calories? Chances are that, like some people out there, you probably have not yet heard of it. Here, through this informative article, we will take a much closer look at the negative calorie diet, including what it is and why it is known to be so effective.

What is the Negative Calorie Diet?

The negative calorie diet is when you are able to eat an unlimited amount of fruits and vegetables, because they are considered "negative calories." A negative calorie is a food that is not believed to have any calories. The many reason is because you are believed to burn more calories eating this particular type of food than which is included in it. For example, it is estimated that by chewing your food for five minutes, you will burn seven calories. If you eat a particular food which only has five calories, you will have burned off the amount of calories in the food just by eating it. Overall, you burn more than you are taking in with this diet, just by eating. This does not include your other daily activities.

Could This Diet Be Too Good to Be True?

Since the negative calorie diet is relatively new, there have not been very many studies done on it yet. However, at this time it is considered a fad diet. Just like any other type of fad diet which is out there, the negative calorie diet is very controversial. While some people may claim that losing weight this way is impossible, others claim that they have lost a very good amount of weight through it. In theory, of course, this diet does make very much sense.

Why Might This Diet Be Legitimate?

Women who live in France are known to be very slim, for the most part. According to one study which was featured in Woman's World magazine, the main reason that French women are so slim is because of their eating habits. Unlike a variety of other cultures, they avoid foods which have been processed, in any way. What this means is that the main foods which their diets consist of include fruits and vegetables. This could, in fact, be very good evidence that the negative calorie diet does work. Since having a certain amount of fiber in our diets is known to make us lose weight, this also seems like evidence that the negative calorie diet may work- considering fruits and vegetables are very high in fiber.

Things to Keep in Mind

One of the things that you should take into consideration is things that you should be sure to think about when you are on the negative calorie diet. Most importantly, it is necessary to understand that fruit is very high in sugar. If you eat too much fruit, you will probably find that there will be problems with your blood sugar. Some of the types of fruits which tend to be lower in sugar include grapes and oranges. Another thing that you should consider is anything that you decide to add to your foods will add calories, whether it be seasonings, cheeses or salad dressings. However, since everyone needs calories to live, adding them might be a good idea. Just make sure that you do not believe that you are only eating negative calories if you are adding loads of these things to your foods.

Much like other types of diets, once you decide that you want to remove the negative calorie diet from your lifestyle, you might end up gaining a lot of weight. However, there are a variety of different things which you can do in order to reduce the amount of weight which you could potentially gain back. For example, rather than eating white processed foods (such as white bread or white pasta), you could instead eat whole grain pastas and breads. They tend to be lower in calories and often contain a much higher amount of fiber. Keeping your calories down and eating things only in moderation will help you keep your weight down. As with any diet, it is important to make sure that you exercise as well in order to get the best results!
