Emmit J. McHenry founded Network Solutions in 1979 as a technology consulting company. The company started with only 30 employees whose main focus was to deliver exceptional applications development to registered clients and business partners.
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) acquired Network Solutions in 1995 and registered it on NASDAQ in 1997.
In 2000, VeriSign, Inc. purchased Network Solutions for an unprecedented $21 billion, making it the biggest online business acquisition in history. This unforeseen yet phenomenal deal has united the two giant leaders in their respective fields: Network Solutions, the world's leading provider of Internet domain name registrations, and VeriSign, Inc., the nation's leading provider of e-commerce and e-mail security. Instantaneously, this mammoth partnership launched with more than 12 million global subscribers.
VeriSign then sold the registrar business to Pivotal Equity Group in 2003. The company, however, continued to operate and function under its same original branding (Network Solutions). VeriSign, nevertheless, retained the registry business component of Network Solutions, which had been created by the latter prior to its acquisition by VeriSign.
At present, Network Solutions continues to deliver exceptional service to the global community, supporting cyber security and online safety awareness and education. The company also takes part in an array of collaborative efforts including anti-phishing, anti-spam and malware data sharing, and online child safety initiatives. This is a living testament that perseverance partnered with opportunity equals tremendous success. At Network Solutions, technology experts not only deliver the goods, they deliver it best!
