A Collage of Poetry using different poetic styles:
Rictameter - A rictameter is a nine-line syllabic structure. The 1st line consists of 2 syllables, then 4, 6, 8 and 10. Then it goes back down to 8, 6, 4 and ends at 2 syllables for the last line.
Soft Breezes
Breezes
flowing softly
wafting gently 'round me
caressing my very being
enveloping me in a soft cocoon
lends a sense of security
safely in the warmth of
softly flowing
breezes
Senryu - A poetic structure similar to the haiku, as it is written in lines of 5, 7, 5 syllables, but primarily deals with human nature, often humorous or satiric.
If Only
If only I could
I would soar into the skies
so far from troubles
Freedom from all woes
even they dare not follow
into the heavens
Escaping darkness
for even it fears the light
as I near the sun
Seeking true solace
above all the loneliness
If only I could
Haiku - A haiku generally deals with nature and is written in 3 lines of 5, 7, 5 syllables.
Long Awaited Springtime
Springtime emerges
slowly, from her long slumber
so long awaited
The first Robin's song
melodiously chirping
throughout still bare trees
Cool winds still prevail
remnants of winter's strong hold
slowly letting go
The sun's rays break through
gain strength and intensity
bringing warmth nearer
Tiny buds revealed
awaiting to soon transpose
when blossoms emerge
Ice flows dissipate
water begins to trickle
life giving forces
Creatures large and small
end their long hibernation
Springtime emerging
Rubaiyat - A Rubaiyat is a series of quatrains where lines 1, 2 and 4 rhyme.
That's Life
It has been said, "C'est la vie"
in life there is no guarantee
happiness won't come my way
and that's the way it appears to be
At times I thought it was oh so near
but I was so very wrong, I fear
it left as quickly as it came
another direction, I know not where
So I will sit and ponder life
every morsel of this dreaded strife
it will not leave me, that I know
cutting through my dreams, just like a knife
There'll be no bright and sunny days
this is life and all its ways
I've resigned to accept the truth
"C'est la vie".... so they say
Acrostic - An Acrostic is a poem (which doesn't necessarily have to rhyme) where either the first letter or word of each line will spell out a message.
Summertime
Sweet smelling air, long awaited
Umbrage for winter's harshness forgotten
Melancholy dissipates
Meandering through fields of fresh daisies
Effervescent waters flowing
Robins singing welcoming tunes
Trickling streams whisper comfort
Iridescent dew resting upon velvet petals
Memories of childhood dreams recalled
Embarking on journeys to distant places
