A Comfortable Stay at the Comfort Inn by Turner Field

For the last two years I have traveled with friends to St. Louis to watch the Atlanta Braves. And both trips were marred with bizarre hotel experiences.

This year I took the opportunity to go to Atlanta to watch the Braves and the hotel experience was much better.

The Comfort Inn across from Turner Field was selected and it was a great choice.

First off, when making reservations, I was able to call the hotel direct instead of a customer service center miles away.

Then while on the phone I asked about the acquiring a roll away bed for the third party that would be arriving on day two of the stay.

I was told not a problem. Well after my experience at the St. Louis Grand Renaissance, where we changed rooms four times in 20 minutes because of a rollaway bed debacle, I was leery of what the Comfort Inn was telling me. But the voice on the phone told me there would not be a problem.

So upon arrival in Atlanta I was thrilled to see that yes indeed the hotel was directly across the street from Turner Field.

Only the Country Inn and Suites is closer.

I was disappointed that there was no parking garage but fortunately the weather was great and the parking lot they say is covered with security cameras.

The room was clean and equipped with a working phone, television, coffee pot and hair dryer and the rollaway bed was provided without a room tour.

Even the shower worked, I did suffer a slight shower curtain failure but I think I will take the blame on that one.

Despite all of the positive, there was a couple disappointments I can list.

First the ice machine on our floor didn't work, but unlike the 20 plus floor Millennium Hotel in St. Louis, this hotel has more than one ice machine so ice was obtainable.

I did suffer sticker shock when I discovered that the Pepsi machine right outside the room only took credit cards and not cash, and the cost of the 12 ounce bottle was $2.

So I do recommend that you bring your own sodas or use your Discover Card so that you can at least get some cash back on your $2 pop purchase.

The only other issue, which really didn't bother me as much as it did others, was the dark elevator.

It seems that one of the two elevators had burned out lights, so the ride was pitch dark.

Not a good thing for those that have elevator fears and it sounded like a horror movie in the making with the shaking and rattling.

After arriving safely on the first floor and existing the horror of the dark elevator, one can participate in breakfast.

Bagels, juice and cereal were featured and a griddle was provided to make waffles on.

I did not try my hand at the waffle maker. On day one someone had tried this and ended up spending a long time peeling waffle crumbs off of the griddle. Not sure if a spray was not available or if it was human error but I decided it was in my best interest to find out.

Another woman had issues getting milk out of the milk machine so I decided that cereal would not be on my menu, so bagels and cream cheese it was.

The hotel did not provide a free newspaper for the staff to steal like what happened to me in St. Louis and there is no restaurant located there to provide over priced lousy room service like in St. Louis.

Internet service was also free and not $9.99 like in St. Louis.

So in conclusion if your going to a Braves game, the Comfort Inn across from Turner Field is a good choice. You do not have to pay extra for parking at the games, its a short walk to the stadium and good customer service was provided.

Thank you Comfort Inn for reminding me what a hotel stay is supposed to be like.
