A Completed Day

One Door Closes and Another Opens

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Indulging into a
Horizontal surrender,
The physical self mirrors
Finally
What the inner energy
And non-combustable
Personal
Fuel tank
Know to be true.
Everything imagined
Has not been completed
But the day is now over
And the perpetuation
Of sentient life
Requires rest.

Eyes drawn to
And sometimes distracted by
Outer visions
Are draped by light folds
Of skin and flesh
Lined by reflectors
Which redirect the views
Sometimes uncomfortably
And often confusingly
Inward
Toward the parallel
Personal reality
That houses the
Inner world
Of unconsciously
Scripted and
Consciously compromised
Dreams.

A jumble of last-act thoughts
Punctuates the transition
To sleep.
Some to be forgotten
In the gentle haze of
Clouded but sweet
Shifting;
Some to be referred
By memory and will
Into the next waking slice
Of our lives.

Until we complete
Our final moment,
Each completed day
Closes one door
While opening yet another.
Each awakening
Announces a new opportunity
To get life right.

Well said brother. I often think when a door is slammed shut for me that the air pressure often opens another one without my aid. Good stuff my good friend.

Each day is precious and we usually try to make the best of it, but when it's time for bed, the day is complete. Nice reflections on our daily challenge.
