Who is Dellbert you may be wondering? Dellbert is my 8 year old Dell Latitude Laptop, he's small and not very pretty by today's standards, and quite frankly, practically useless at this point, but I still have love for my first computer. That computer got me through two years of college, 5 years of freelance writing and loads of google searching and gift buying.
But today is a new day and I am getting acquainted with my just purchased Toshiba Satellite L505 Laptop, on which I am writing at this very moment. She's quite lovely; she's black with a graphite finish, large keyboard and a 15.6" HD TruBrite Display.
Hard for me to believe now that I had been without a computer of my own for the last two or three years. My mother's computer crashed some years ago and when that happened Dellbert went to stay with her. During that time I was alternately going to the library and to my mom's to use the computer. All of you freelance writers out there are probably grimacing, feeling my pain as you read this. It sure is hard to keep up with article writing and social media that way.
Ever since my mother's computer crashed I have been thinking on what kind of computer I would get when the time presented itself, and though my ultimate wish list computer was a Mac, my thrifty mindset simply wouldn't allow me to spend that much on a computer.
I heard that Wal-Mart had the Toshiba L505 for $350, and once my taxes were turned in and I found out that I was getting a good sized refund, I decided it was time to finally get that much needed computer. I came back from work Tuesday night jonesing to write a few new articles; I knew I wanted to go out that night and pick-up my new laptop. So, I picked up the phone and called Wal-Mart to get specifics on the Toshiba laptop laptops and was brutally rebuffed - sold out. Following that I decided that though Staples advertised them for $150 more than Wal-Mart, I might get a better warranty package from Staples. So off I went to Staples.
Once I got to Staples I went straight to the electronics salesman and told him what I wanted. He went in back to make sure the Toshiba L505 was in-stock and came back carrying one of the last two available.
Now I'm sitting here writing on my new Toshiba L505, with good ole' Dellbert sitting on the edge of the desk sputtering out his death rattle as he tries to boot up one last time so I can retrieve my old documents.
