A Connecticut Mother Faces Years in Prison and Fines for Putting Her Son in a School in a "better" Neighborhood

Tanya McDowell is charged with felony larceny stemming from enrolling her six year old son in a kindergarten in the a suburban school in Norwalk, Connecticut instead of the school in the economically depressed, more diverse, and pretty much cesspool of Bridgeport, Connecticut. She faces prison and large amounts in restitution to the Norwalk, Connecticut for fraud. This case has again brought forth the discussion about the achievement gap between blacks and whites. Connecticut has the highest gap between white and black students of any state. I think this is an interesting fact and many people would assume it would be a southern state like Mississippi and some overt plot of racism. This obviously is not the case as this happens all over the country. The discussion of the gap in funding between poor inner city schools and affluent suburban schools is a factor as well. Education, community, and civil rights leaders like the NAACP have come to her defense.

Ms. McDowell was arrested in April and charged with "committing and attempting to commit first-degree larceny by using her baby sitter's address to enroll her son in a Norwalk school for the fall". She faces $15,000 in restitution to the district for the cost of a year of school as well as up to 20 years in prison. Her son was also "unceremoniously" removed from the school he was attending. Critics claim she broke the law and stole from the city when there was a school the child could have gone to. Supporters, of course, claim racism and that the school she chose to send her child to fraudulently provide a better education. There was a case very similar to this in Ohio. Of course the mothers never believe they did anything wrong and are almost brazenly defiant.

There are some things that make this case get rather interesting and become cases of he said and she said. First of all Ms. McDowell claims she got a call from the district in January telling her to remove her son. The district maintains that no such call was made. There is debate on if she informed the school she was homeless. I must say I am curious of how she could afford a babysitter if she is homeless, but that is another story. Under current law her child would have been allowed to remain at Brookside elementary school if they were in fact homeless. Like many cases that civil rights leaders unfortunately take up, she is not exactly a model citizen. In November 2010 McDowell allegedly had 14 bags of crack cocaine and 60 bags of marijuana hidden under a black wig she was wearing. Her supporters say that is not an issue. In a way I do see their point, but this does establish her pattern of rule breaking and thinking she does not have to follow the laws. In the case in Ohio, for example, the mother was a hard working woman and not in various legal troubles.

Now this brings us to a few observations. I am sure some will be offended by this, but know that I speak the truth. The first is that in all the cases that I have heard of women from urban areas doing this (they may not all be the same) woman are taking kids from a minority area to a much more white area. It appears that they are afraid of their own people and want their children educated with white people. In the case of Ms. McDowell Bridgeport Connecticut is considered one of the most dangerous cities in the United States and is over 60% minority ( mostly black and Hispanic) while Norwalk, Connecticut is roughly 70% white and has fewer crimes according to various sources including the NAACP. Now here is a good question. I understand wanting to get your kid into a "safer school", but who are the people that are causing the problems in the schools these mothers are fleeing. Are white kids shooting up the school and making it so parents don't want to send their kids there? Are the schools they are committing fraud to have their children attend mostly minority? The answer to both these questions is no. Now many will make racism accusations over that, but the reality is that most areas that are high crime and have low achieving schools are black. The schools they are trying to get the kids into because they are "better" are white. Now I thought there was a concept of black pride and equality. If that is the case why are these women running from their own people to put their children in a white school? The truth is that the white schools are safer. That should not be the case and is very sad but it is the truth. Until liberals quit using entitlements and the race card to control the black vote this will continue to happen. See if blacks better themselves they may not be as likely to vote for liberal candidates. In 2008 blacks voted for Obama by 95%. Do you think the majority of the 5% were welfare mothers living in public housing, or people who bettered themselves and had good jobs and contributed to society? I think we know the answer.

Now another thing that bothers me is something many would not even think of. We know in this country many times blacks and groups like the NAACP support amnesty for illegal immigrants and so forth. What these people supporting this don't realize is that this is cutting off their nose to spite their face. The underlying reason for support is the thought that less white people as a percent of the population will make things better for the black man. What they don't realize is that the former illegal immigrants have overtaking them as the largest minority group. Illegal immigrants and anchor babies have played a much larger part in this than anyone wants to admit and the wages of blacks do down more than whites over this time. Most blacks have not been smart enough to realize this. I am not sure if they are blinded by "sticking it" to the former oppressors in white people, but they don't realize the harm they are doing themselves. All they have to do is look around Los Angeles and see how few opportunities there are for blacks since the Latinos took over aided by the illegal invasion. Face it my black Americans, the Democratic Party will pander for the Latino vote the way it used to for your vote. And you are helping them do it.

Now with budgets tightening and limited resources often times the urban schools end up getting the short end of the stick. Part of this is largely because there is a much larger tax base in the suburban areas. Call it racist if you want, but generally this is the case. Blacks are standing by while the illegal alien lobby gets the country handed to them on a silver platter and letting them get away with. Obama has done more for illegal invaders than the black man since being in office and most will still mindlessly vote for him because he is black ( not all but more than a few). If this woman was an illegal invader to our country this would not have happened. There is federal precedent that we even have to educate children that are here illegally. Between the cost of bi-lingual education because parents are too stupid to teach their kids English before breaking into the country, free lunches and other hand outs the illegal invaders get it's no wonder we can't take care of our own people. Something needs to be done. The illegal invasion will only cause the black and white achievement gap to increase. Someone has to pay for all the food stamps, WIC, welfare, public housing, educational programs and so forth the uninvited quests eat up. That does not even include the anchor babies they produce, which are a product of a criminal act and further add to our budget problems. California has basically been ceded to Mexico and close examination of their issues can show that if those resources on illegal invaders and anchor babies were not being spent the state would not be in the trouble it is in.
