A Cookie Recipe that is Universal!

Here is the chocolate chip cookie recipe that I grew up with. I love to eat them. I always would sneak a spoonful from my mother's bowl before she put them on the cookie sheet. This recipe is also a great recipe for holiday cookies (read the note at the bottom).

Amount: about 3 dozen cookies

Preparation time: about 30 minutes

Baking Time: 12 to 15 minutes

Temperature: 350 degrees

Ingredients:

1 ½ cups of sugar

1 cup of shortening

1 cup of milk

2 eggs

3 ½ cups of flour

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon of baking soda

2 teaspoons of baking powder

1 teaspoon of salt

Chocolate chips

How to make them:

In a large bowl, mix the sugar, shortening, and the eggs. Then mix in the flour, vanilla, soda, baking powder, and salt. Then mix in the milk and stir until the cookie dough forms. Do not forget to mix in the chocolate chips in the dough. When stirring you must mix everything quickly or it will not set correctly.

Grease the cookie sheet with a cooking spray. Take a teaspoon full of the dough and place them on the cookie sheet. Make sure you space them out because they will become large cookies. Place the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for about 12 to 15 minutes or until they are not doughy anymore.

Note:

If you leave out the chocolate chips, you can then use the dough to make holiday cookie cutouts.

You do this by placing flour on a counter or surface where you room to roll out the dough. Now put some flour on your hands to help the dough from sticking to your hands. Take a large spoon and put as much dough that your hands can handle onto the flour covered counter. Now sprinkle some flour onto the dough. Now using your hands mold the cookie dough into the flour so that the cookie dough does not stick anymore. Take a roller and roll it out evenly so that it is about a ¼ inch thick. Now use your choice of cookie cutters and cut out some cookies. As a suggestion dip your cookie cutters in flour so that they will not stick to the dough. Follow above baking instructions.

When finished baking let the cookies cool and you can put frosting of your choice on it and sprinkles.

For whichever you choose to make the cookies I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
