A Country Adrift

Luke Wilson

Without brakes we are bound to crash
Faster and faster, reckless in our pursuit
In a race to the bottom

The American dream, I remember it
Vivid in my memory stolen by a few at the cost of the many
Self-reliance and dignity evaporating like water,
We are lost.

A country a drift in a sea of selfishness and greed,
We are stripped of our pride,
forced to scavenge like hyenas off the table droppings of the billionaire bankers with the fat cat politicians in their pockets.

Who really cares about the middle class?
Not the cowardly Politicians who are more concerned about being re-elected then they are about helping the people who sent them there.

Who is fighting for the real Americans?
The people struggling to survive,
The people who are going hungry,
The people who are losing their homes,
The people that use to be the middle class
Who is fighting for them?
