As a 20 year old gay man from a small town in Maryland, I know how hard it is to be different in a town where difference is frowned upon. In my high school, we had very little diversity in either ethnic backgrounds or sexual orientation. Everyone was straight and white, save maybe 10 of us. Our school wouldn't even condone us having a GSA for the few that were brave enough to be out and proud. But despite this, I found comfort in thinking that it was just my town, and the world was a better place. Several years after graduating from high school, I realize that the same narrow minded ideas carried out in small towns, are being conveyed in the battlegrounds of politics. Right wing conservatives blast homosexuals for being against God, and living a life style in which their book doesn't condone. But no one bothers to ask why God just doesn't love everyone? Since when did God become so discriminating that he would make people in order to not love them. And as for those who venomously quote the bible, why do you stop reading? The bible passages also say not to mix fibers, and eat meat on certain days. I guess its easy to live your life if you only use the bible for your personal weapons. But another sad fact remains that we have homosexuals who are going to personality camps. They want to change who they are to be someone different and "better" in the eyes of the judgmental communities.
Recently other members of the LGBT Community have changed and "came out" of homosexuality into heterosexuality, and in turn blasted the homosexuals for being lecherous, pornographically centered, and addicted to drugs and alcohol. We're often compared to pedophiles and those with a fond affection for animals, but we're never seen as people. I can't remark for the drugs or parties that homo and heterosexuals alike go to, because thats not me. But the point here isn't to prove that I'm better or worse, bur rather that we're people. If a straight member of any community is addicted to a drug, or has sexual relations with a child, isn't it the same as if a homosexual member does? Sometimes I'm not so sure.
I guess I'm ultimately preaching the same thing that others have before me. Peace doesn't exist anymore, and we're no longer United. We are now segregated into small war-like factions. Its the lefts against the rights and we'll fight until we die to rule. Neither half wants the other to get power, and they'll destroy anyone caught in the middle with their political power. Our president commands the troops like pawns to be slaughtered, while we destroy each other. Do people exist anymore? Can I, or anyone else, be seen as just a person and not a title? I doubt it, and the sad fact is that people younger than I do have a cynical view on life. Give peace a chance or it might just the be last mistake we make.

Post a CommentWhen I joined AC I did not know it was up to me to get pageviews. When invited, I joined a reciprical page view group. Now I was forced to read articles that were, how to say it, spreading that narrow and closed minded point of view. "If you are pro-choice you are pro-abortion" one article asserts. I knew in an instant she would be the same type to liken homosexuals as "hopeless sinners". There seems to be more of her in the group, which leaves me feeling downhearted about the human race.
Vote for the Uniter Senator Obama. That is if we have an election in 2008. To answer your question if a homosexual rapes a child it is the same as a heterosexual raping a child. People have it so stuck in their head that we get to choose our "gender orientation", I think that is what it is called, they want to make a rape mean something different between the two. This belief may come from "straight" men that choose to have anal sex with females.
You hit upon a subtle truth in those last few lines. While we squabble over social issues like abortion or gay rights, the President is waging war and directing the flow of wealth from the many to the few in various other ways.
This particular problem that seems so intractable isn't really. Our problem is a public fight over a private issue. Through consciously inclusive communities, we negate the public/private spheres to a degree. The more people rely on the people the live near, the less inclined they will be to bash them for this and that. The public/private problems our society faces is a direct result of the alienation of individuals.
