1. Floor; Let's start with the floor. If you have a wood floor, keep it. Wood is great for a country style kitchen. In most cases, you can't afford to go switching floors. However, throw rugs can add to your kitchen. Rugs with designs of chickens or plants will work. Place these, where they can be seen easily.
2. Paint; Painting needs to be done every now and then anyway. so pick out a country color to add to your room. Go for shades of green, red, yellow and even blue. Some prefer earth tone colors. If you use those, keep them light in nature.
3. Wall Paper; If you have wall paper have prints that have a country or farm pattern to it. If you are going to hang items on the wall, then you want a light colored wall paper. This will let your wall items stand out.
4. Wooden Cabinets and Shelves; If you decide to add cabinets, go to a wooden cabinet. If you can match your floor grain, that is even better. If you don't do anything, with your cabinets, put up a wooden shelf over your sink or cooking area. These shelves can be bought at Lowe's or Home Depot.
5. Furniture; Furniture that has that worn out look works great. You can also use wood grain items, too. A few antique items will bring out the old country style flavor to the room.
6. Wall Items; Old kitchen utensils, skillets, country pictures and small farm items look great hanging on the wall. Keep them high away from children's hands though.
7. Shelf Items; The shelf that you put up can have collectibles on it. Porcelain animals, small toy tractors and coffee cups work great on it.
8. Window Curtains; If you can match your floor mats with the same design, that would be great. If you have country style wallpaper, go with a semi-solid style of curtain. You can usually find a curtain with a small country design at the top of it.
9. Signs; Signs like "Granny's Kitchen", "Mom's Place" or "We give Thanks" can also add to a country style kitchen.
10. Fragrances; A country style kitchen has to have that special smell. Candles, with an apple pie smell or blooming flowers, will add to your kitchen atmosphere.
Finally, bowls of fresh fruit and vegetables will add color and smell, as well. For other ideas, check out Home Decor.

Great article - I love country kitchens!
Sounds like my last kitchen. Now I'm more into 'less'.
Real nice!
Great suggestions for a country style kitchen.
Very interesting Carl!
Wonderful piece that carries a lot of nostalgia with it. It makes me think of a cold Saturday with meatloaf in the oven in the 1950s and '60s.
All great suggestions. I would add have peas and beans cooking on the stove and cornbread in the oven.
Sounds cozy.
Great job. I have a couple of roosters in my country kitchen :)
