A Customer Review of Famous Dave's Barbecue in Meridian, Idaho

Famous Dave's is a large restaurant, designed to resemble a log cabin or lodge. The interior is very comfortable, and seating areas are large and well spaced. The facility is very clean, and well lit. We encountered pleasant employees during our visit.
Famous Dave's serves various barbecued items, including chicken, pulled pork, ribs, and beef brisket. Additionally, they also offer burgers and even fish. While at famous Dave's, I ordered the "two meat barbecue combo". These combination plates include the customer's choice of two meats, and are served with a cornbread muffin, small corn-on-the-cob, and a choice of various different side dishes. I selected barbecued chicken and the Texas beef brisket. For my side I chose the garlic mashed potatoes.
Our meals arrived within ten minutes, and were served in plastic baskets lined with checkered wax paper. We did get real silverware and glass drinkware. The meat servings seemed a bit small, but being that the meals were priced at under $10 per meal, serving sizes were probably fair.
The first item I tried was the garlic mashed potatoes. These had too much garlic for my taste, and the consistency was gummy. I ate less than half of them.
I then tried the brisket, which I disliked entirely. The menu describes the brisket as "bursting with flavor", however the only flavor I tasted at all was smoke. The excessive smoke flavor made the beef taste exactly like ham, which I don't happen to like. It was like licking a campground fire pit. So the brisket was a total disappointment, in my opinion. I tried to make it taste better by trying several of the six bottles of barbecue sauce on our table, but I didn't care much for any of them. One in particular tasted like pure vinegar.
The barbecued chicken was fairly good. Nothing to write home about, but I enjoyed it. The cornbread muffin was alright, but the corn-on-the-cob had a strange "tap water" taste to it. There was some type of toast under the brisket, but I didn't bother to try it.
Overall, I felt that Famous Dave's Barbecue was just mediocre. I liked the atmosphere, the friendly service, and the level of cleanliness, but the food was basically a let-down. I was glad that the prices had been low so that I didn't have to feel like I'd wasted my money. I won't bother to go back again.

Post a CommentI have tried a lot of Brisket, Dave' s is my favorite because it is tender, never dry and has a great smoked meat flavor,, pit smoked meat is supposed to taste smoked in my opinion and Dave Does it very well.
Continued from below- again.........Yes, the silverware gets sent through the dishwasher with bones and garbage mixed in with it and is always dirty! There is also a nasty group of girls working there who think excessively high of themselves and have treated me and several others poorly. These girls have nothing better to do with their lives than get together and gossip and trash talk every person in the restaurant who is not a part of their pathetic little group. I felt like I was back in high school again! So, Famous Dave's in Meridian, Idaho is bursting at the seams with bad attitudes and cruel, unethical people. Don't patronize a place like that! I wouldn't want even one penny of my hard-earned money to go to support a business which employs and rewards people for such abhorrent behavior.
Thank you Brandy for an honest review. I actually think the food is pretty good but the management is AWFUL! I worked there for a year without a single customer complaint, maybe one or two mistakes the entire year, if that, and have been honest, dependable, and hardworking. I received tons of wonderful comments from the many customers who appreciated my friendly smile, efficiency, accuracy, and attentiveness. And how was I repayed for my year of good work? By being unjustly fired and treated like trash by the snaggletoothed little wimp of a manager. A table of 6 customers came in and were just looking for someone to unload on- and they found me. They all had super picky orders and were very rude to me while ordering and very demanding- so much so that they made me nervous enough to make a couple of minor mistakes on their order which I NEVER usually make mistakes. Okay- first of all, yes, the brisket is bursting with SMOKE flavor! This is a BBQ restauran and the meats are smoked for 36 hours!!! Yes the bbq sauce that tasted like vinegar-is a vinegar based sauce, not to be used for brisket! And, NONE of the dinners are for under $10 so I have no idea why you're lying on here....ANDF TWO sides come with the platters and two meat combos along with the corn on the cob and corn muffin....NONE of which platters are under $10. Further, tou were complaining about the garlic taste of the mashed potatoes? What are those called again? Oh yeah, GARLIC red skin mashed potatoes!!!!!! Yeah, I work there and I get so sick of MORONIC people that come to a bbq restaurant and then want to complain about the smoky BBQ flavor of their food!!!
