A Date that Will Not Live in Empathy

Amanda Keller
With all of the recent praise and weightiness given to the virtue of empathy by our Commander-in-Chief you'd think he'd try practicing what he preaches. Yet with Obama's big push for the insertion of empathy into our judicial system he seems to be astonishingly void of empathy when it comes to his fellow citizens and the role of Top Executive. He began his time in office telling us we will all need to turn our heat down in the winter to conserve energy as he cranks the Oval Office thermostat into the high 70's, blaming his Hawaiian upbringing for making him such a hot house plant (he's so exotic, I love that about him).

He pontificates on the wonders of fuel-efficient, compact cars, expecting our fat American bodies to cram into such autos, autos that run on some absurdly more expensive fuel that's not invented yet but will save the planet from man-made global warming which was previously man-made global cooling in the 1970's but has now been classified as climate change because that darn weather can't make up it's mind how it's going to react to our man-made polluting! All the while Big O drives around in the heaviest, roomiest motorcade with the most gas guzzling engines in history. I know, security, he needs the security. Funny, he's supposedly the most loved American President whereas Bush was the most hated yet Obama needs ramped up security? Not doubting, just saying! Oh yeah, I forgot the gun nuts were on Bush's side. As if some sissyfied anarcho-communists could have hurt Bushy Boy. My bad.

Then there was the whole school voucher hub-bub. Big O is always giving shout outs to the youth, the youth that is our hope, our future (the hope that they are strong suckers since they are the future carriers of insane amounts of debt) telling them how he has their backs all the way. I'm not exactly sure how he squares supporting the end to the very successful school voucher program that gave amazing opportunities to underprivileged youth in D.C. as "helping the youth"? Surely the oodles of money the Teachers Union threw at him during the election have nothing to do with it. No, must be some other GOOD reason why he'd strip young urban youth of the chance at an education in a fine private school while his own little darling daughters attend the most elite school in the Washington area. The public schools are just fine for the black kids in D.C. unless your last name happens to be Obama. Where was the ear of empathy on that one, Mr. President? I know, times are tight. We must cut the budget and kids (except his) are the best place to start (plus those D.C. kids won't be old enough to vote in the next election).

And speaking of times being tight here in the good ol' USA, it's true Mr. President, people are losing their jobs by the hundreds of thousands, businesses are closing in droves, industries are crumbling. As my brother would say, "How's your liver? You ain't lookin' too good." Be clear, Obama is not the cause for America's cirrhotic liver condition. We've been mixing capitalism with lethal amounts of socialism for a long time. But for God's sake Barack, when the patient is in the intensive care unit, it would really help if the primary physician doesn't sip on martinis in the waiting room.

What I'm trying to say is, a $250,000, taxpayer funded date night in NYC? Are you kidding me? And I don't need to hear how "hard" Big O has been working for the last 4 months. What about the men who were shipped off to fight in Afghanistan 4 months ago? You think they haven't been working hard? You think they wouldn't want to take their wives to NYC for a glitzy date night on the taxpayer dime? Methinks Big O has it a bit bass ackwards. A real leader sees to his troops first and puts himself last.

I have no problem with our leaders having down time and enjoying nice things. But when so many people are seeing their financial lives in ruin, their retirement funds reduced to a pittance, their futures so unsure, I would hope the President and the First Lady in her $500 designer tennis shoes at a homeless shelter would have a bit of empathy for their fellow Americans, the Americans that pay the taxes rather than spend them. The Obama's may oversee the buying of banks, car manufacturers, universal healthcare, souls, an extravagant date night in NYC with our tax dollars but there is one thing they will never buy with our money...class.

A great acerbic slap at the Prevaricator-in-Chief and his missus. BTW, the Onion cracked my wife up with their parody on the wonders that are Michelle's arms. Go to the Onion.com and check it out . Turns out the mere appearance of Michelle's buffed and delightful sleeveless arm feeds the needy. These Obama's sure do rock!

But wait a minute...I thought only Sarah Palin overspent on her wardrobe. I love your bit about the liver.

Also, I think its the DO stuff that doesn't do the notifications. You might try publishing non-exclusive.
