A Day in the Life of a Netbook

CB
My name is Mini Netbook. So you can call me Mini if you'd like. Netbooks are becoming very popular these days, with us being inexpensive and light-weight. So I decided to share a day in my life with you- A day in the life of a netbook.

Before you get to know me better, let's talk about my ancestors..Well, just a few of them at least. Excuse me people, but laptops, notebooks and netbooks are different. Laptop was a term used in the 80's, as unlike desktops that need to sit on a desk, these could sit on your lap. As time progressed, the hardware technology advanced and the Laptops got thinner and the term Notebook was introduced.

So there are Laptops and thinner ones that are known as Notebooks. Now-a-days, these two terms are used intrechangebly; but that right there is the difference between the two. Then I was born along with my myriad siblings.

For those of you who don't know what a netbook is, let me give you a gist. A netbook is smaller than a notebook and weighs less too (~ 1-1.5 kg), which I think is cool, don't you? Everyone is going the weight-loss way, so I am glad to be tiny too. But I don't starve myself.. thank you very much! ha.

Since I am small, I have to be efficient. We netbooks have lower memory and so, this is yet another reason to be efficient in utilizing resources. It is common for me and my sibings to have a memory of 80GB to 160GB (HDD). Though, some of us have more memory.

Our OS is normally Linux or Windows XP. Here comes Windows 7 now! Netbooks with Vista are no good, since Vista is a memory clogger and I have limited memory. Netbook processor is highly efficient and is normally the Intel Atom Processor. It suits us very well.

So when can I be of great help to you? If you want a light-weight, portable computer and you do two kinds of tasks, then we netbooks are great if you:
1- Work online a lot.
2- Perform computing tasks that don't need too many resources like gaming PCs.

So if you are one of those people, who travels a whole lot and does most of the work online/writes articles and things like that, netbooks will do you good. You can listen to music, play short videos, use me for social networking, write articles, surf the web and I can also be a second computer for your kids.
I am inexpensive and so, lots of people including youngsters, who have just started earning love me.

Now like all of you, I have a few drawbacks too. I don't have a CD/DVD drive. But ..wait! I do have a USB port and you can always use your pen drive! I just showed you a work around (*cheesy smile*). I have limited memory, so don't clog my memory with too many memory cloggers running at the same time like videos, games etc. If you have massive hands, then my keyboard may be small for you. But there are some netbooks with decently large keys too. Since my screen is small, you can always zoom into things and work, so your eyes remain healthy.

Finally, for some strange reason, just like my ancestors, I too zonk off from time to time. But then like I said, my ancestors have this problem too. I guess it's in the genes ..sigh.

But apart from that I am super cool and am available in a wide range of colors. So go get your own mini netbook, for whatever reason it may be. You will have fun having a mini netbook around.

You could always use youtube to play music. They have a wide variety of songs to choose from. The only downside is when the song ends you need to click the tab and start the song all over again.

Nice point of view. My sister has one of these and she loves to use it for school. I myself am a gamer, so my mega powerful desktop suits me just fine. Yet the mini does have less power consumption, which is better for the enviroment and the wallet!
