A Day Out in Metro L.A., Part Six

It's spring time in LA. The weather will be your best friend now until October. There are many enjoyable things to do outdoors. Even if you do something indoors you have to go outdoors to get there. She will begin to glow this time of year. The little springs dresses, painted toe nails and sandals provide added confidence and a little extra perkiness, so be sure to acknowledge her cuteness.

OK, here's your Saturday or Sunday day out in LA.

A real man doesn't worry about superficial stuff.

Offer to go with her and treat her to a manicure and pedicure. You'll be the hit of the nail salon. Your lady will build you up to her manicurist who will incite her co-workers to say good things about you in their native tongue. Those ladies enjoy talking trash. Just be "Joe Cool" and take it all in. You'll be very amused. While you're at it, get a manicure.

Consider renting a convertible for the day. It's just a thought. Drive over to Hollywood Boulevard or Sunset Boulevard, buy one of those "Map to the Stars Homes" from a street vendor. Most of the information is out dated, but that's okay. You'll have fun driving through parts of Bel Air, Beverly Hills and Brentwood looking at the homes of movie stars. The two of you will be looking good, so you'll fit right in. Keep your eyes peeled for an "Open House" to crash. Tell them that you're friends of mine. Wut? I'm the ticket my man!

You're having a good time, so take one of the canyon roads "over the hill" to "the Valley" (San Fernando Valley). The main through-pass roads are Beverly Glen, Coldwater Canyon, and Laurel Canyon. Benedict Canyon is a little tricky and Mandeville Canyon dead ends. Your Nav system will figure it out.

A dining spot the two of you will remember.

The Ventura Boulevard Corridor offers many choices for food, movies, and shopping. Drop in to one my favorite spots, Senōr Fred in Sherman Oaks. Located on Ventura Boulevard, just west of Woodman Avenue, the authentic Mexican cuisine is fabulous, the ambience is perfect, and the bartenders know how to hook it up! Call ahead, to find out if one of only two private booths is available. If no booth is available, the lounge area is pretty lively with locals especially if a game is on. I was there for the USC/Texas national championship game a few years ago, and more recently for Lakers' and Dodgers' playoff games, and it was craaazy fun.
