A Deafening Sound

When I close my eyes I hear it
Feel my heart beating in my chest
See your face lying next to mine
The sheet rise & fall as you rest
It's a terrifying feeling
Allowing you to come inside
The areas deemed off limits
Parts of my heart I purposely hide
I wonder if you can hear it
If the sound penetrates your ears
Over the noise of conversation
The clamoring of my fears
While you hold my hand
Your fingers stroke my core
Assuring me you of sincere intent
Unlike those who've come before
As we kiss with eyes wide open
Allowing you to peer into my soul
Intensified connection
Closeness making me feel whole
The safety and security
Found laying at your side
A desire for something deeper
I'm no longer able to hide
While sleeping I heard it falling
I know I heard it break
The protective wall around my heart
I know I felt it shake
With every kiss we share
The barrier of defense descends
Every moment spent with you
Propels my heart to transcend
The hurt and pain of the past
Fear of further regret
Possible disappointment
You make me want to forget
There's something in your eyes
Telling me that it's ok
To let in you and open up

In such a short amount of time
