A Definition of Responsibility

Ronak Patel
Responsibility, what comes to you mind when you think about that word? Most likely your parents telling you to do and do that and mainly doing it right. Is that what responsibility really is? Well, lets say a part of it is, but that's not the only thing responsibility has the meaning of. Everyone has different meanings of responsibility. Responsibility is responding to your actions in your community and your life.

Webster's dictionary defines responsibility as, the quality or state of being responsible. My definition of responsibility is doing a work that makes you feel proud without having a thought of wrong doing. An inspiration quote written to inform of responsibility is: " if not me, then who?, if not now, then when?" This quote, if understood reveals the true meaning of responsibility. To me this quote means if no one stands up for a cause, you should stand up, if your don't stand up now, then when will you? This shows courage and a sense of being responsible for the good of one's self and the good of others.

Taking responsibly of your actions is one of the true lost gifts to one. There are many instances you encounter someone blaming the other for wrong doing, but is there ever an instance when you see one blaming the other for a good deed? Not really, is the nature of human kind to take credit for something they haven't done. My actions of everyday life, not only define responsibility of mines, but also reveal my nature. There are many instances where I have to responsible for what I am doing. For instance, everyday I go to school, I attend classes, I learn from those classes. Now, I am responsible for going to school, going to class, and taking notes in class and learning. In addition, I have to be responsible at home as well. I have two siblings, which I dearly love and if not the responsibility that neither of them would matter. I like taking care of my siblings and showing them a directions in life. It not only makes me feel good inside, but it stays as a unforgettable memory.

There are many places, many people, and many troubles in the world that can change with one's help. Do you ever think about that? No, we are too busy in our everyday life, we forget the world crisis, but not only that, we also forget the crisis in our own town or neighborhood. Not knowing or keeping track of these instances, is also a sign of not being responsible. I personally enjoy helping others and helping the community. If everyone would show there part in the community, the place would be a different place. There are many ways to help the community, you can help plant trees and crops, you can half clean up a specific place, you can volunteer at a food service warehouse, you can teach the kids for a days at schools, you can help out by voting for benefits of the community such as the smoking ban, you can help by not loitering and there are many other creative activities do to that benefit the community. One-self should have a destination in life, and a part of it should be giving back. Life is given for a cause not for one's benefits. There are many people in this world who are corrupt, dishonest, iniquitous, and selfish. Surprisingly, most of the times, they are the ones to have a packet of life that all one needs to live a luxurious life, but half of the times, each of those people don't have any meaning if life, and die regretting their actions. I have many short-term and long-term goals in life, but most of those goals aren't about me and there are about the world and other. Life is not given for regret, its better to do your part and help yourself with no sign of regret or any wrong doing.

Responsibility is responding to your actions in your community and your life. No matter how you prove you're responsible in your house and with your parents, there is always going to be a part of your that's empty. Make your self useful, in your house and you community. Be a responsible citizen and do yourself a favor. Life is too short to live only for yourself, that's being a coward, step into the world and do your part and life live predominantly.
