A Different Kind of Frisbee

Larger, Softer, Easier to Catch!

Quickpaws
Have you ever been knocked in the head by a conventional plastic Frisbee? It can sail gracefully through the air and then knock you silly when it smacks you in the nose, and it can REALLY hurt!

If you're like me and have all the coordination of a hippopotamus on roller skates, you'd rather let a Frisbee fly right by you than catch it. After all, you might hurt your hand! So you pick up the Frisbee as soon as it lands on the ground nearby. The only problem is that "Frisbee" is much more fun when you catch it in mid-flight!

Playing "Frisbee" with small children can be worrisome, too, since you're likely to get upset when your sweet little first-grader gets beaned in the head by a conventional plastic flying saucer.

Don't fret! There IS an alternative to conventional Frisbees! All you have to do is learn how to play "Frisbee" with an inflatable plastic pool ring, otherwise known as a "floatie". My daughter Tiffany and I LOVE to play "Frisbee" outside with a "floatie". There are several advantages to using a floatie instead of a Frisbee:

Floaties are soft compared to Frisbees. A flying floatie can crash right into your child's face and she'll barely feel it. You won't have to worry about bloody noses, painful Frisbee-to-head collisions, or throbbing ears. Also, if a flying floatie happens to collide with your neighbor's front room window, it most likely won't send glass shattering to the ground.

Floaties are easier to catch than conventional Frisbees are. They're larger, for example. The average floatie can be as large as two feet in diameter. It's easier for small hands to grab in mid-flight. Not only that, floaties have a one-foot hole in the center. Even a first-grader will find it easy to catch the floatie on her extended arm. Catching a floatie can be much easier for adults as well, for the same reasons. Playing "Frisbee" is much more fun if both people can catch the disc more often!

Floaties are inexpensive, especially if you buy a few of them when they go on clearance at the end of the summer. Dollar stores sell them "on special" for as low as ten cents apiece. Buy a few if you can catch them on sale!

I hope that you'll attempt my alternative to conventional Frisbees. It's safer, it's easier, and most of all, it's more fun! So get out there in the yard and fly your floatie!

Sounds like something I should get - I've gotten beaned by frisbees too often in the past.

This is a great idea. My daughter and I were just at the park with a Frisbee and she was the least bit interested. A big bright floatie may be the thing to get her interested in "Frisbee".
