Eczema is also known as dermatitis, it is a localized inflammation of the skin where the body has come in contact with an allergic substance. Frequently people who suffer from eczema outbreaks also tend to have a predisposition to allergies such as hay fever or asthma. It is a very common condition and affects all demographics including babies. The inflammation or enlargement of the skin around an outbreak of eczema can be very difficult to manage.
It is this enlarging and stretching of the skin which creates an itchy sensation making it very difficult for the individual to avoid scratching the area. However it is important to avoid scratching the irritated skin as infection can and often does occur. Instead mild anti-itch lotions should be used to reduce the swelling and relieve much of the itchy discomfort. Another treatment of the symptom is to eat higher doses of fruit and green vegetable which are known to have an anti-inflammatory response in the body.
The effects of eczema appear to run parallel with the body's level of allergic response. Frequently a person may be allergic to certain substances such as tree pollen in their youth and eventually grow out of the condition. The experience of eczema also tends to abate as a person grows out of their allergic condition. Unfortunately for other individuals eczema is a chronic condition that lasts their entire lifetime. These people can be termed as having very sensitive skin and therefore should be very careful of the types of cosmetics, creams, and moisturizers that they tend to use. They should be very careful when reviewing the ingredients of the products that they purchase and use in their daily routines.
