A Dog Named Romeo - Rome, GA

Terri Rimmer
For The Sake of Animals, an animal activist group, is appealing to citizens to help a canine who is very very sick.

The large adult male is currently staying at the Floyd Animal Control Shelter in Rome, GA. He was found nine months ago by a local citizen who ended up having to surrender him. Animal Control adopts dogs out on a first come, first serve basis.

Adoptions are held M-F 10-6, except Wednesday when the facility is closed. On Saturday and Sunday the shelter is open 1-5 p.m.

The dog/puppy adoption fee is $40.00.

In unrelated pet news, Lucy, a canine who has her own Facebook group, "Lucy From Pits & Rots for Life Rescue, Inc.," has an ER bill of $1,632 that has not been covered yet.

Donations are dead in the water and urgent help is needed.

In other animal news, you can help save Gulf sea turtles from extinction, according to Greater Good Network, by signing an online petition at http://www.therainforestsite.com/clickToGive/campaign.faces?siteId=4&campaign=LoggerheadSeaTurtles&ThirdPartyClicks=ETE_061710_LoggerheadSeaTurtles_F.

"Loggerhead sea turtles were already in danger before the recent oil spill," states a mass email from the organization. "Exposure to spills can cause skin loss, poisoning, death, drowing, which is why we need every available tool to help save the lives of individual loggerheads and save this species from extinction."

The oil is extremely toxic to the creatures.

"Key sea turtle nesting beaches in the Florida panhandle are already seeing the effects of the Gulf oil disaster, and the danger to loggerheads will only grow as more oil makes its way toward shore and this year's hatchlings must make their way back to the now toxic waters of the Gulf."
