A DOG'S LIFE

Kathryn Neff Perry
My husband always makes fun of me because he says my dogs live better lives than some people.

I think he's crazy. I don't think my dogs live any differently than any other dog.

For instance, Koko has a little sweater, and Buddy has a couple of scarves.

He looks really cute in his little red scarf.

One day my husband asked why he didn't have sunglasses. I told him they wouldn't stay on his face.

Buddy and Koko are always in the same room I am in. Or if I'm outside they always want to be with me. Buddy, the Rottweiler, is too big to sit on my lap, but he always wants to be able to see me. Koko, the Dachshund, just sits in the chair beside me.

They get the usual treats everyone gives their dog. A dog biscuit or a rawhide treat. Sometimes they each get a little ice cream cone.

They both have their own special brush. Buddy is short-haired and Koko is long-haired.

I think the only thing that might be the least bit unusual is my dogs both like ice water. In the summer when it is really hot, I keep their water dish filled with ice water.

I think what got me in trouble was the other night I was having a glass of iced tea and when my dogs heard me getting the ice out of the freezer they both started barking and ran to the kitchen as fast as they could. My husband thought something happened to me and hurried to see what the problem was. When I handed each of my dogs an ice cube and they ran to their favorite spot to eat it, I knew what he was talking about.
