A Double Shot at Love...Wait A Second, How is This Supposed to Work?

I'm not the biggest fan of reality TV shows, especially the ones that involve a bunch of women competing over one man. Straight women are at their cruelest and ugliest when fighting for the affections of a man. But I had to check out A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila when it debuted in 2007, the first bisexual dating competition show. Lesbians aren't nearly as nasty fighting over a woman. At least not on TV. I'm not saying there weren't cruel moments between the women, but as a whole there was more of a feeling of sisterhood between them. The first season was the most fulfilling throughout and I believe this is because of contestant Dani Campbell who appeared to be the most emotionally stable and by far the coolest out of any of the contestants from any season. Unfortunately, Tila was an idiot and didn't choose her. The night the season finale aired where Tila chose Bobby over Dani was an extremely rough one. Not only because of this, but also because this was the night I found out that Jamie-Lynn Spears was pregnant.

After two seasons of A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, I'm glad she decided to stop making more. I found Tila to be a very intelligent, interesting woman who I think really was trying to find love. But, my dears, this was the epitome of Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places. I was actually happy at the end of the second season when she was rejected by Kristy. Tila needed this to grow as a person and maybe this would snap her back into reality so she would stop these awful shenanigans that were poisoning her life. The last I heard, Tila was dating Courtenay Semel, the daughter of former Yahoo! mogul Terry Semel. I also heard that Courtenay was arrested for battery back in August. I'm not sure what their current relationship status is, and Tila's MySpace doesn't seem to give any information who she's dating.

So now we had A Double Shot at Love starring the "Ikki Twins" Rikki and Vikki (Erica Mongeon and Victoria Mongeon). They have amazing bodies and their faces are ok, but they have nowhere near the charisma or intelligence as Tila does. I know they supposedly majored in child psychology in college and one of their favorite books is I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb, but it was much harder for me to be convinced of how special they were supposed to be.

While both shows were twisted in the way they handled relationships and dating, I could not figure out for the life of me how A Double Shot at Love was supposed to work. A pair of twins looking for love? "Dating" the same people? With Tila, I was upset with the way it seemed that she was "all take and no give" with the contestants. I guess the fact that someone was going to be able to be with Tila at the end was supposed to be enough "give". With the Ikki twins, I was completely baffled. One twin told a guy she really liked that she wouldn't be able to get closer to him unless he attempted to make a connection with her sister. But once he makes this "connection" with the other twin and begins having "feelings" for her...then what happens?

When both girls "fall in love" with Trevor and choose him, it's up to Trevor to decide which sister he wants to be with. With all the head games they played, he looks like a deer caught in headlights. He had told Rikki a few nights before that he was in love with her. When Rikki didn't respond, his ego was crushed. He then realized that he had more in common with Vikki and wanted to be with her. When he chooses Vikki, this causes Rikki to stalk off and yell back, "I hope you're more real with her than you were with me!" The poor guy is standing there with a confused Vikki who of course wants to know what's going on. He stumbles around with his words, trying to explain himself. Personally, I would have walked right off the set and gone home. Apparently Trevor and Vikki are still together and I wish them both all the luck in the world. I have no idea how "real" this show actually is, but I'm not here to judge. I save that for people who hurt others on purpose and Tyra Banks.

Besides Dani Campbell, I didn't find any of the contestants from any season attractive or charming. How Tila, Vikki or Rikki were able to make a "connection" with any of them is beyond me. But I guess for me, I would never have an attraction to somebody who would go on a show like that. But to each her (or his) own.
