A Dysfunctional Love Story #5: The Saint & the Sinner

Hannah
This couple is the furthest away from being compatible. Yet, so many of them do end up together. The Saint has a neon sign that says come and get me, Sinner, I will show you the way to salvation. Unfortunately, this rarely works and the Saint get's worn out by the many sins of the Sinner.

The Sinner-

This guy is truly a wonder. Everything he does says look at me, I'm an obsessive compulsive, narcissistic, jerk, and I don't care who I hurt. The only person this man will ever care about is himself. He cheats, lies, he's verbally abusive, and often time physically abusive as well. He may also suffer from some type of chemical addiction. The Saint is exactly what he looks for, someone that will love him enough to put up with his unrealities torture. This man has no idea what real love is; he leaves that to the Saint. You see, the Saint is going to have to love enough for both. To him you are not the love of his life, but rather a love object. You are there to be used by him, to get whatever he wants. No matter how wonderful or Saintly you are, there will be no enlightening revelation for this guy. Matter of fact, the better you are, the more he feels it's okay for him to do as he pleases. In his twisted mind, you help balance it all out. He doesn't have to do anything but please himself.

The Saint-

Boy, do I know this one all too well. Now, of course this woman isn't literally a Saint, but she does tend to always try to do the right thing, is very loving, and most importantly never gives up on anything. This is unfortunately her downfall. No matter what the Sinner does she believes with love, encouragement, and perseverance, he will become the man she knows he can be. Did I forget, she's a little delusional too. Her self-esteem seems to be based on what she can accomplish and make right, instead of on who she is and what she deserves. She is a perfect target for the Sinner.

Believe it or not this couple may last longer than most dysfunctional couples. The Sinner knows he has the Saint right where he wants her, so why would he want to go anywhere else. The Saint is at the same time relentless in trying to save the one she loves. Neither one really has no reason to give up the fight. They are doing exactly what they were meant to do. However, somewhere down the line the Saint may tire of her efforts not making any headway. After all, there is no glory in a continuous fight without an end. Most human beings like to accomplish a task, or win. It's only after a very long battle that the Saint may come to realize tat the end doesn't justify the means. This was never a fair fight to begin with, because the Sinner very rarely changes, and has no reason in his mind to do so. There's a reason there's a Heaven and a Hell, so there's accommodations for all!
