A Fall Poem: Farwell to the Spring Bird

Amanda R. Dollak

Oh, little bird,

Haven't you heard

That winter's on its way?

It's time for you

To say adieu

And then spirit away . . .

To bluer skies

And warmer highs

As you wait the winter out.

But soon you'll be home

When the rivers foam

And the plants again sprout,

So don't you fret

'Cause you can bet

We'll meet once more next spring.

Goodbye for now-

You must leave this bough-

For it's time to take wing!

Take care, my new friend,

'Til the winter's end;

I'll think of you each day.

Enjoy your tour

But I deplore

Return without delay

When the sun is high

In an azure sky

O'er an emerald land . . .

Then sing to me

So heavenly

As the earth renews again.
