A Farewell Poem for Pokey

Sherry Tomfeld
Putting your horse to sleep is harder than I have words for. After 25 years together Pokey's and my trail has come to a fork. She will go one way and I will go another. But its temporary. I "see" the reunion and "feel" the youth creep back into both of us, when we've both gone home for good. Thank you Pokey. Your passing will not change my love for you a whit. Happy Trails dear friend.

Saying Good-bye to Pokey

When we were young and oh so free,
We rode the hard paths, you and me.

We let our manes fly full and long
and answered nature's coaxing song.

Some Hard times came for we two
But you had me and I had you.

And now today you lay in vain,
You can't get up, you're full of pain.

Standing here I know the task,
Nod my head, and you'll breathe your last.

And I will die a thousand deaths,
And find it hard to get my breath.

Remember being young and free
Seeking the sunsets, you and me.

Letting our manes fly long and free,
Heavens the place for you and me.
