A Fathers Day Poem: Our Daddy Song

Carol Rucker
Four girls, seven boys

Daddy, who would have thought?

All the clothes,

And the food,

And the toys to be bought

Garden plots to be worked

All those trips to the store

Sun to sun,

Toiling hard

Dad, you did that and more

Holidays,

Dancing days

Family memories still clear

Gift-wrapped smiles,

Sparkly joy

'Christmas comes once a year'

Every day,

Happy smiles

'Cause you gave us our song

"Here he comes!", one would say

Then we'd all sing along

Here comes Daddy!

Here comes Daddy!

Here comes Daddy!.....

What father would not wish to be so honored? Thanks for putting words to what fatherhood means
    to the child.

We've been very fortunate. Daddy's parents died when he was young. He always made it a point to be a good and fair father with all of us. I always knew he worked hard, but didn't know how much until I raised two of my own.

What a 'father.' My father was a great man who was deprived of being the father he wanted to be. During his later years, he became angry because of it. Back then, parents deprived the older sons by pulling them out of school and making them care fo rhte younger siblings. My father being the oldest was made to work and care for his younger siblings while they went to school and pursued their dreams. He was angry and sometimes we felt the brunt of that anger. Before he left us, he apologized of for all of his actions and the things he did.
