A Few Effective Ways to Save Money

Eve H
Many times we've been walking in the store with our loved ones intending to get what was on the list we have put together the day before we have gone out. Then it happens, you get to the store and pick up a few unnecessary things you never intended on picking up in the first place. When you get to the register the total is like three times the amount you were planning on spending. How did this happen you wonder? You didn't think you spent nearly that much.

I'm sure it's happened to many people out there, as I am one of them, so you are not alone. Here are a few ways to avoid overspending so you can stay within your budget.

1. Go through your shopping cart at the end of every trip to the store

I know when my husband and I go shopping, we have a tendency to overspend. One of the ways we have learned help cut the amount we spend is by going through our shopping cart at the end of every trip to the store. We sift through the items we've accumulated during our visit and ask each other if WE REALLY NEED that item. If one of us decided the answer is no, we put the item back. It's pretty simple and helps you actually think if you need that item or not. (By the way this is helpful with dieting too.)

2. Go shopping alone

I love shopping with my family but sometimes it's not a good idea especially if we are trying to stay on a budget and have a hard time doing so. I know just being with them at the store makes me want to spend that "little" bit of extra money on little surprises or goodies.

3. Only take cash

Now this is another good way to save money and stay on budget. However, there is a catch to it. Only take cash, leave all your bank cards at home. I am telling you the only way this method really works is by leaving your cards home if you are like me and have a hard time with money and overspending. I've often thought to myself that I'll only stick to spending the cash and still wound up spending money from my credit cards and kicking myself later on for bringing those cards with me.

So the next time you go shopping try using some of the suggestions above to help you spend less money and stay on budget. It's worked for me and it will work for you too!
