A Few Ideas for Fun Family Activities

Dave Otero
Because of the fast-paced world we live in today, with pagers and mobile phones, we can see that we, as parents, are often too busy running in the rat race of work and travel, and our children only want to be with their friends. But, today, family time is as important, if not more so, it was in the pre-technology era. It is important to have quality and quantity family time together to nurture and strengthen the family bond and relationships. I have created here, a list of fun family activities the whole family can get involved in. Choose a night of the week to indulge in some of these, and make it a tradition.

You could:

Play charades or Twister, Monopoly or the board game "Game of Life", Play Scrabble, or "Up Words". These last two are really good as it gets the brain back into gear, and makes you actually think! Cooking together, making homemade pizza, homemade tacos, or baking cookies helps to bond the family ties, and teaches unity, discipline and the harmony of working together.

A family trip to the mall (no you REALLY won't die of embarrassment), also gives you family time. Set aside one night of the week to rent movies, watch movies and eat popcorn.

Easter egg hunts and dying eggs together is a good activity that involves all members of the family as does dressing up in Halloween costumes with them, take them trick or treating, or even go to a haunted house or you could just have your own house haunted . Take family photos when you go to a museum or aquarium. Go to the movies or the zoo or throw a party just for fun! Reading together, going biking, or even skating can be a lot of fun family. Going on the annual family vacation is an important one, as a lot of quality time can be had, and this is the one time a year a family can get away together, make wonderful memories and bond. You could also go to the local park, go out on a picnic, go to yard sales, or take the family fishing. It doesn't really matter which of these activities you do. As long as the whole family joins in, there is always the time and opportunity for some serious bonding, and quality time with family is always needed, no matter how strong the bonds may already be.

Yup, when all is said & done it's really only about family, not even self, just family.
