A Few Simple Lifestyle Changes Will Help You Lose Fat and Keep it Off for Good
The Easiest Way to Lose Fat
The first change you need to make is in how you think. Most people, when they hear the word "diet", start to think the word is an action word. They think it means something you are going to do for a little while to lose weight. The word diet should not be thought of as something we do but as a word to describe the total of what we eat. In other words your diet may be hot dogs and chocolate cake but this certainly isn't going to help you lose weight.
Now that I have you thinking about your diet in a different way, let's look at how you can easily change your diet to help you lose weight. One of the easiest ways to lose fat is to start eating more fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with vitamins and nutrients your body needs. They are also a good source of fiber which your body needs to keep your colon clean. Now your thinking, thanks genius I already know that. Really take a look at what you eat through out your typical day.
Begin making these lifestyle changes by replacing a couple of servings of processed foods or junk food with fruits or vegetables. It is not advisable for most to just stop all of your bad eating habits all at once. By replacing junk with healthy nutritious foods a few at a time over a period of a couple of weeks, the changes will not be as difficult. You will be more likely to make a permanent lifestyle change in this way.
Another way to replace your bad eating habits is to simply make it a goal to replace an extra piece of meat with a serving of vegetables. You should strive to eat 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit each day.
Increasing your intake of fiber rich foods is another easy way to lose fat. When you eat fiber it bulks up and makes you feel full faster. Fiber also has the added benefit of passing through your digestive system fast and cleaning your colon along the way. Make it a goal to eat about 25 grams of fiber each day. If you cannot eat that much fiber, look for a good fiber supplement. Some experts have said that you can lose up to 10 pounds a year simply by doubling your current fiber intake.
Get into the habit of eating 5 to 6 times per day. If you do not eat breakfast, then start. You must remember you have not eaten in at least 8 to 10 hours and your body needs fuel to get you started. Breakfast is a good time to get some of that fiber you need and a serving of fruit. Eat a sensible lunch that consists of lean protein and vegetables. For dinner follow the same general guidelings as for lunch. In between meals eat a snack that consists of a serving of fiber or fruit. Before bed eat another serving of fiber rich food.
When you are preparing your meals think about your portions. A good rule of thumb is to clench your fist, this is how much you can have of vegetables, lean proteins and grains.
The last lifestyle change I can recommend is to become more active. Find little and creative ways to increase activity levels through out the day. Try to stand up and walk around when you are talking on your mobile phone. Park your car at the back of the lot at work or the supermarket and walk the extra distance.
It is also time to start a simple exercise program. If you are not accustomed to exercise, take it easy at first. Be careful not to over do your exercise. If you are injured then you will not be reaching your weight loss goals. Start with 30 minutes of brisk walking each day. If you cannot do all 30 minutes in one session, split it into two 15 minute sessions. Every couple of days increase your time each session by a few minutes until you can do the entire 30 minutes.
If you start making these simple lifestyle changes today you will soon start to see the results of your efforts. There will be some discomfort in making these changes but if you plan to make the changes a few at a time over a period of 15 to 30 days you will minimize the discomfort. Make the changes gradually, try to make all of the changes too fast and you will likely go back to your old habits before it does you any good. Remember it took you years to develop all of your bad habits, give yourself a reasonable amount of time to change them.
