A Few Tips to Help Your Baby After Getting Those Shots

Does Your Baby Swell Up After Getting Shots Try These Tips it Will Help the Swelling and the Pain

Angel Vee
Just sitting here thinking about how my babies are due to get their shots in April I decided to give you a few tips how to help your baby after they get their shots. These few tips that I use will help your baby feel more comfortable and make the swelling go down no pain involved. We all know as parents many babies don't even react well when they even walk into a doctors office let along get needles stuck in their little arms or legs. A lot of babies end up swelling after a shot is given, which I know many adults swell just as bad. So just imagine how that little baby feels if a older person is in pain. I know with my little girl sometimes she swells up a lot, because of her sensitivity some babies are just more sensitive than others. So I hope these tips I use can help you out or maybe someone else.

1. Take some Vick's vapor rub place it on the spot where the baby got their shot done. Try to do this as soon as you can to prevent the swelling process. You can do this right at the doctors office as long as you bring a pair of gloves with you then place the Vick's on. Must leave the Vick's on with a bandage of some sort for a hour or so. This will ease the pain and take the swelling away drastically. Then after that hour wash throughly and let it air dry.

2. Another one is the good old witch hazel. First take a rag place the witch hazel on a rag and place on the swelling area. Let this soak into the skin for about 30 minutes or so. Then rinse and wash off with soap or baby wash. This works very fast and gives a soothing effect for your child.

3. Take a hot and prepared teabag let it cool off until it's a little warm. Not where it's gonna burn the child though. Then place the teabag on the swelling area and wrap either a towel, bandanna, or something to hold the teabag in place. Let it stay on for about 20 minutes or so. Then take everything off rinse with cool water.

4. Always make sure after your baby gets any shots to give them plenty of fluid like water, or pedylite. Do not over dress them them, because if they are running any type of fever or feel warm this will make them more uncomfortable and very irritable.

5. Tylenol is good to use after their shots for the pain and fever if they do get one, but sometimes you have to alternate the Tylenol with Motrin. Sometimes after using Tylenol for too long it doesn't work the way it should. The Motrin will work a lot faster you just have to make sure you go by the instructions on it. Don't give more than what the bottle says.

I bandaged Tucks pads onto my son's legs after his first shots, and it helped him immensely. That and Tylenol were able to get him through the night. I just changed out the pads when they dried out.

My daughter's nurse was extremely shocked at how she barely made a peep when she got her shots...so I thought I'd share my secret for making shots easier. It's as simple as a bottle of sugar water! As soon as they stick them, give them the bottle (all it takes is a couple ounces) and BAM no more crying. My daughter is 9 months old and she doesn't cry at all after the sugar water! Seriously, try it...although, I don't think it will work for older children...just babies.
