The old rules of what to wear when like the little black dress for formal occasions no longer exist. Yes, some of these fashion rules still are appropriate but the choices are vastly different. For example, instead of jeans on your next shopping trip try a jogging suit. You will look cool, hip and put together instead of the standard jeans tee-shirt combo with purse slung over your shoulder. These shoes can take you from lunch to dinner in a heartbeat. Speaking of dinner you rarely see the standard dress of the past. A rule of thumb for nice restaurants is maybe a pants suit and heels. Casual dining can be anything at all from jeans to sandals and mostly everything in between. Try to follow the not too short skirt rule and don't dress too revealing for etiquette's sake. (Don't want to distract the waiter).

For work if it is a corporate environment, yes the blazer and skirt still work but you now you have options. A man-tailored shirt is good in white or stripes. Black slacks always look professional (again, not too tight). Maybe a cashmere sweater tied over your shoulders or a designer scarf for class. Good shoes always make a statement. Try for leather if possible. Make sure they are in good repair. Shoe styles are definitely something everyone is interested in. If your budget is stretched there are various consigment stores where you can find great deals. Look for the best labels you can find. A lot of shopaholics take their excess purchases in and sometimes you can find brand new items that have never been worn.

Don't worry about exactly matching shoes to your handbag. A pop of color is really cute now and in style. Try red or yellow for a change. Romantic ruffled blouses are also very pretty these can be dressed up or down. You can try it with velvet slacks for evening or jeans. Either way they look great. In the cold weather a beret looks nice.
Another stylish accessory that denotes style and taste. Please don't wear the heavy boots in the spring. It looks kind of silly unless you are wearing them with jeans and have a motorcycle. Also, throw out the rules about age. Whether you are eight or eighty good taste and style are always fashionable. Age appropriate is another silly rule.
