A Fine Family Resort at Linekin Bay Resort in Boothbay Harbor, Maine

Lisa Thibault Pietsch
The spectacular coastal property in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, known as Linekin Bay Resort has been in the Branch family for over 100 years. It has evolved from a cottage in 1909 to a summer camp for girls in 1919, a summer camp for girls and boys during the war years, and finally to a family vacation destination from 1946 to present day. The Branch family is in its fourth generation running Linekin Bay Resort in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. I worked at Linekin Bay Resort for Robert and Ida Branch during the summer of 1985 and can honestly say that I look forward to the day when I can bring my own family there for a week-long stay.

In the 1980s, Linekin Bay Resort was considered a quaint, old fashioned family resort. Guests stayed in cabins and lodge rooms, swam in the heated saltwater pool, fished, played tennis and shuffleboard and sailed in the Rhodes 19 sailboats in preparation for Saturday's regatta. Meals were served family style in the dining room where the same families would look forward to time together year after year. Televisions and Internet were unnecessary when you had the ocean, pine trees and fresh air of Boothbay Harbor, Maine. What impressed me most was the sense of tradition I saw at Linekin Bay Resort. Some families were visiting for the first time, while others had been spending a specific week there every summer for years. Family reunions were common there.

The fourth generation of Branches has updated Linekin Bay Resort quite a bit since then.

You can still do all the activities that families enjoyed twenty years ago but much more has been added. Kayaks, canoes and rowboats have been added to the ocean fleet and a restaurant and bar have been added to the property to allow guests a few more dining and entertainment options. A Kids' Camp has been added for younger campers and wireless Internet is now available throughout the resort.

Linekin Bay Resort still offers the all-inclusive family vacation package through the summer season (generally Memorial Day through Labor Day) and prefer guests to stay for a week as has always been the tradition. The all-inclusive package includes lodging in either a cabin or lodge room, three full meals per day, sailing and all the other recreational activities including a nightly movie.

Linekin Bay Resort has expanded their season in the spring and fall to include a bed and breakfast package that includes a room and a deluxe continental breakfast as well as run of the resort and all the activities it has to offer. The restaurant and bar are open all season for those who prefer to return to a nice relaxing ocean view meal at the end of a long day of whale watching, shopping or just exploring the coastal town of Boothbay Harbor.

Day packages are another new addition at Linekin Bay Resort. Tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, swimming, boating, fishing, lounging and a full lunch are included in the day packages. These day packages are great for seasonal residents of Boothbay Harbor or people staying nearby who just want to escape the hustle and bustle of Boothbay Harbor's tourists. Add-ons to the day package include Tuesday's Lobster bake, sailing or sailing lessons and the Kids' Camp.

Linekin Bay Resort in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, offers all the best that a vacation on the coast of Maine can provide. Guests can be as active as they like whether they are three or ninety three and the family atmosphere is ideal for families reconnecting and hoping to spend quality, fun time together.
