A Fun, Free Resource for Seniors Aged 55 and Over in the Wilson, NC Area

If you are an active senior looking for something to do in the Wilson, North Carolina area then I urge you to check out the Wilson County Senior Center. The Senior Center is located at 1808 South Goldsboro St in Wilson, NC and is open to anyone aged 55 years and up living in Wilson County. The Senior Center is a completely free facility for seniors and is funded by the county and staffed by dedicated volunteers. The Senior Center is open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. every day and has many activities to offer.

At the Senior Center you can participate in activities such as crafts, exercise, cooking, and more. There is also a branch of the Red Hat Society that meets at the Senior Center. If there is an activity that you would like offered, just mention it to one of the volunteers and you may see it offered very soon! The Center also offers a recreation room with pool tables, dart boards, big screen televisions and exercise equipment. There is also a half mile long trail through the woods directly behind the center if you would like to take a morning or afternoon walk. The Center also has a kitchen and vending machines if you'd care to bring your lunch or just get a quick snack while you are there. Coffee is always perking back in the kitchen!

The Wilson County Senior Center is also one of the first to have a Computer Lab on site. Ten new computers are available for personal use during the Center's hours of operation.

The Wilson County Senior Center also has an affiliation with Wilson Technical Community College. Through this affiliation classes in computing are offered at the Senior Center depending on your interest. Classes that are often offered at the Center include: Introduction to Computers, Introduction to the Internet, Windows XP, and Microsoft Office. If there is a class you would like to see offered at the Senior Center mention it to the volunteers and if there is enough interest shown by others at the Center the class will be offered. Also, seniors can take courses through the Continuing Education department at Wilson Technical Community College for free and the Senior Center will be able to give you information regarding the classes and times offered for on-campus courses.

The Center also offers a transportation service available through the County transportation system for such needs as doctors' appointments, shopping and getting to the Center.

The Senior Center is also always looking for active seniors who would like to teach classes or lead exercise group and the like. So, if you have a skill that you would like to share contact the Senior Center to see if you can be added to the class and meeting schedule. All groups, meetings, and classes are scheduled by the Senior Center on site. For times and dates you can check the notice board at the Senior Center.
