A Funny Ministry Story: Enjoying the Lord Through Things that We Shouldn't Talk About in Public

Jared Moore
So yesterday I went to a hospital in Lexington, KY to visit one of my church members that was recovering from surgery. There was another man in the next bed that was recovering from surgery as well. Since the man I came to visit was sleeping, I took the opportunity to talk with the man in the next bed. I asked him what type of surgery he had; and he responded, "Surgery on my colon." He then said, "If I can just fart, then I'll be good to go." We began to make small talk about his family, when he suddenly stopped mid-sentence: "Oh, here comes one," he said. So, I stood there in silence while he tried to pass some gas... but, he failed. The man that I originally came to visit was waking up, so I shifted my focus to him.

I began asking my church member how he was feeling, when he was going home, who was going to take care of him, etc. While we were in mid-conversation, from the next bed came this loud screeching fart, followed by a loud celebration. The man then asked, "Did you hear that reverend?" I said, "I sure did! Congratulations!" He then pushed the call button on his remote. "Can I help you," the nurse said. "I farted!" the man said enthusiastically. "Can I do anything else for you?" she said. "No," the man replied.

I left the room after praying for both men, and sharing the gospel with the enthusiastic farter (he was a fellow believer). I must admit that I left thanking the Lord for humor, the ability to laugh; as well as, the ability to pass gas. Once again, men do not dream about what they already possess; so, make sure that you enjoy the Lord through the ability to laugh; as well as, the ability to pass gas... for you will not dream about these things unless they are taken from you. Let us always enjoy the Lord through our normal everyday blessings, forever dreaming about Him alone being glorified in all that we do.

God has given us plenty to laugh about - much of it when we aren't afraid of looking at ourselves. Thanks for the fun start for my day!

Good one! I think God has a wonderful sense of humor. I usually agree, after about ten years, that it really was funny, but sometimes it takes a little hindsight.
