Many years ago there was a little girl on my daughter's tee-ball team, that had no idea she was on a baseball field. She would get up to bat dance and sing until the coach put a bat in her hand and told her to swing. When she was on base she sat down and looked for four-leaf clovers or pulled out the grass one piece at a time. Her time spent in the outfield was by far the most interesting, she often did cartwheels and somersaults . One time she even acted out an entire scene from her favorite movie.
The coach and her parents tried to remind her that she was supposed to be playing ball, but she didn't care she was having fun doing her own thing. She was so cute and so much fun to watch that I would catch myself staring at her instead of focusing on the game.
The coach would often put her in the outfield because she was so tiny and so distracted that he didn't want her to get hit with the ball. During one of our regularly scheduled games, this little girl was in her usual spot . She was twirling and dancing and jumping around like no one else was even there. The other team was up and they were having trouble hitting . The kids were all kind of bored waiting for some action. Then out of nowhere one of the kids connected and bam ! It went whizzing right toward this little girl. Everyone cringed hoping the ball wouldn't hit her.
The little girl stopped dancing, raised her arm up and caught the ball! We all looked in disbelief and then started clapping and cheering. The little girl ran off the field to her parents and said, " I caught the ball , Can we go home and play now?" We all laughed as this little girl kept us smiling for the rest of the season.
