Nier was published by Square Enix, who also recently released the latest game in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XIII as well as the recent game in the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest IX. Basing their tract record it is fair to say Square Enix can be trusted as a worthy action, adventure and role playing game provider.
This game however was developed by the company Cavia which originally was created in Japan, like many video games on the market today.
This game is not for everyone though as it's ESRB rating is M for Mature. So if your planning to purchase this game for your child, make sure this is something you are comfortable with them playing first.
It can be purchased online at either Gamestop.com or Amazon.com. Amazon offers a $4.00 discount from the pricey $59.99 bringing it down to $55.99. You can also purchase a used copy of Nier for $47.48. Amazon offers free shipping unless you want 1 day shipping. You can also choose gift wrapping if this is a present for someone else. Nier is currently in stock on Amazon.
At Gamestop, Nier is the flat rate price of $59.99 and the usually ship out in one day. You can also find used copies of the game here for $44.99, although no used copies are currently in stock. One nice feature about the Gamestop website is you can check in-store availability via your zip code for a location near you.
So now you know the specs, here's the low down on game play. Nier is the name of the main character you will be playing in this video game. As Nier you are on a mission to find a cure of a virus called the Black Scrawl disease. Why? His daughter, Yunah has been infected and without this cure, she will surely die.
In this role playing game you follow the story line while fighting by choosing various methods including weapons, melee attacks and an RPG favorite, magical spells which in Nier are called "Words".
I found Nier's in depth story featuring some interested side characters including a woman wielding woman Kaine, who fights along with Nier and a creepy, hovering creature Grimoire Weiss who holds the key to the magic spells which Nier uses to be a game worth playing.
I was lucky enough to test out Nier at a local gaming community portal, and am definitely going to purchase this game.
Perhaps Nier will turn into another classic RPG game with sequels to follow. We will have to wait and see what the future holds in store.
