A Gamer's Review of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Video Game

This Prince of Persia video game known as The Forgotten Sands has the same basic storyline as the original Prince of Persia game, thus being set in ancient times during the city's peril and fight against conflict in the Kingdom of Malik, who is the Prince's sibling brother. This game is set just after the first one making it a consecutive stepping stone in the time of Prince of Persia. The first game however was set in a place called Azad and this is suppose to be set just outside of Azad in surrounding areas and wreckage.

Forgotten Sands features some of the same cool features we all loved the first edition for such as magic and the storyline of the king ruining the city and you being the Prince it is your job to save your people and livelihood before it is too late. My personal favorite feature that has been carried on from the original game is the sand demons, those who were once humans, however an ancient magic has turned them into demons made of sand. Perfect for the desert setting, if you ask me.

The newest features that have been added to this edition of Price of Persia using the ancient magic give you elemental control, meaning you have power over wind, water, sand etc and a time reversal magic spell that can come in handy when you least expect it. An unusual and memorable character known as a water djinn passes you along these powers, but you will know him better as Razia.

These new magic powers you are granted are more than a little helpful. Use the elemental control to defeat your enemies and cross oceans like Alibaba and the Forty Thieves tale, however the twist on this one is freezing water seems to be the favorite and easier option as it seems to be an option everywhere; but the best is in the time reversal magic. This means if you make a wrong move you can quickly rewind just a few seconds and have an opportunity to do it over the way you had planned it in your head. This doesn't mean you can't still die though, so beware the time reversal can help catch you back a few seconds but it doesn't bring a dead Prince back to life.

You don't just get all these powers from the beginning though. You have to play through to unlock the four combat spells, which in my opinion kind of give the game an extra boost although I heard others complaining they had to wait for all the spells. It is quite easy once you have mastered all four combat spells so working your way up to them makes you have better appreciation for your health bars, magic potion left and your experience points; which flash in the game screen corner every once and a while so you have to keep tabs when they aren't on the screen to know where you really stand and what you need to pump up.

I found the running, jumping and swinging action to be a high paced game that can compete with Sonic the Hedgehog himself. I loved the fast pace of this game during action sequences but when it came down to one on one combat I almost felt slowed down. Although I have no complaints about this game, a bit faster combat would have more suitably fitted the high paced running and action that leads up and follows the battles.

The swordplay is decent though and still worth playing, especially considering that even if the fights feel a little stalled and slower than the movement, they have boasted this game with more enemies and more fights then the original Prince of Persia video game. In The Forgotten Sands you will find yourself battling of to 20 or 30 enemies at once, which leaves you busy and not bored at all during combat.

I found the graphics of this Play Station 3 video game to be very crisp and pretty unreal. Among the cool magic, clean graphics and fun game play I suggest this action adventure game to anyone who likes a good video game.
