Born of seeds sowed and nurtured
massive ruby heads of brightly colored petals emerge
stalks stiffen stretching towards the warmth of the sun
it stands majestic amongst its brethren
massive ruby heads of brightly colored petals emerge
stalks stiffen stretching towards the warmth of the sun
it stands majestic amongst its brethren
Gentle breeze sways them to and fro
taunt to break for a moment then gentles to bend
embraces itself with arm length leaves
graceful reflection of grandeur
Red gendered by birth regal beyond conception
towers proudly in uncomplicated gardens
the sunflowers summer crown
falls quiet into humbled autumn slumber

Thank you all for your kind comments! I love sunflowers so this poem was easy to create. Glad you enjoyed it!
I'd never seen this color sunflower either. The farmer down the road grew 5 rows of them this summer and I remember thinking how beautiful they were. I wanted to get a photo of them but, he had harvested them all by the time I decided to write this poem. :(
Very nice.....never saw red sunflowers before, they are gorgeous!
Beautiful! I think the last two lines are exceptionally well-written!
The poem is just perfect for that beautiful bouquet of flowers pictured.
Oh Deb, just beautiful! I didn't know there were red sunflowers. Dazzling.
