A Gem

James R. Ford
Katie's singing about her anywhere place
she's thinking of a cat in a shawl, stationary
a telltale sign of amazing grace

she's happy within herself
where ever that may be
sometimes playing piano
staring off into space

the coffee's not getting getting cold
sipped fast while the music plays

Katie is a songbird
isn't she lovely
gazing out the window
at deep green steeples

the people applaud in earnest
after every song
apologies go out for the lack of kazoo
(it wasn't really needed)

just enough sweetness
to warm the cold day outside
cd in hand, signed

the gem shines brightly on a Sunday afternoon
polished, naturally
with the beauty of her face.
