A Ghoulish Party

Susan Owens
A fluffy sheet of gray over head casts a shadow of dread,

The flipping and flopping of multi-colored leaves warning of the cold

The scurrying of feet through the town streets

Shoppers rushing in and out of department stores

Double checking bags for makeup shades of oranges, purples and blacks

Looking for decorations of skeletons and bats

That just right witches hat

A gust of wind to blow my hair, lets me know the time is near

My home is complete, the party will be a blast

The time has come at last for guest to arrive

Once last glance to know, this party will be rocking so

Sweets! Sweets! Oh, look at all the wonderful treats!

Pumpkin seeds and candy corn, there is plenty to eat

Cobwebs in the corners house spiders with an evil stare

Broken chairs to sit on if you dare

Bugs in jars are a nice little touch

Hold the stars please, the moon is bright enough for me

An old broom resting against the door frame

The table is lined with a cloth, purple velvet I found on the loft

Batty music plays into the night

Everyone is having a howling good time

The frightening life that monsters must lead

On this very ghoulish Halloween
