A Glimpse of My Father

Janet Hunt
The smell of Old Spice
Singing country tunes
As he cooked breakfast
On a Saturday morning

Up before dawn
Headed to his favorite fishin' hole
Ten pound catfish
Take it home and fry it up!

Lunch bucket in hand
Leaves with the sunrise
Days on the farm
Riding a tractor
Home after dark

Tells a corny joke
Laughs till he cries
When he tells it
It's funny!

Oldest son of thirteen children
Weighed 2 pounds at birth
Grew up in the depression
Work came before school

Work hard
Pay your bills
Tell the truth
Loves God and country

Loving wife
Of over 50 years
Gone much too soon
He misses her every day!

5 children
3 boys, 2 girls
14 grandchildren
3 have passed from this life
More great grandchildren coming every day!

A rich life
A great man
His family loves him dearly!Happy Father's Day Dad!

I love you!

I've never met him, but I feel like I know him. This was a great poem and I loved the simple, yet powerful imagery. My dad smelled like cigarettes and dark green Tic Tacs. Oh, the things we remember.
