A Go Green Guide: How to Create an Eco Friendly Nursery

We all know that going green is good for the planet, but it is also good for baby too. Creating a green nursery for baby is a great idea that is readily affordable to fit most budgets.

When choosing furniture for baby's nursery try to source pieces that are made from sustainable wood. This means that the trees which were used to make them were replaced after they were cut down with minimal use of chemicals. Baby's crib should also be made out of solid wood, and if it has paint on it make sure that it is low or no VOC paint. VOCs may cause respiratory illnesses. Also consider this type of paint if you plan on painting the walls of the nursery.

Green mattresses are made of all natural ingredients like organic cotton and wool and though they may be a little more pricey than standard mattresses, they are worth the investment as baby will spend a lot of time with her skin against it. When buying baby's sheets, linen and clothing, ensure that it is made out of organic cotton since pesticides and fertilizers stay in the material even after it is washed.

Try to avoid using carpet in your baby's nursery as it traps dust and allergens, and sometimes there are dangerous chemicals used during the manufacturing process. Wallpaper also should be kept to a minimum if any at all as most varieties contain polyvinyl chloride or PVC.

Keep baby's nursery as simple as possible. This way you don't bring things in that can be potentially dangerous and you can spend more on the items that are most important and necessary. Creating a natural nursery will ensure a safe and comfortable haven for baby.
