A Good Trick to Avoid Dining Out Temptation

Many Americans are fighting everyday to lose weight. A new crash diet or diet pill is popping up on the market every time you look around, but nothing seems to work. The point of the matter is that fab diets don't work for the long haul. The only way to shed the pounds and keep them off is a lifestyle change to the way you eat and move. Consistency in good eating habits is much more beneficial than any crash diet.

With hectic schedules it is almost impossible to avoid dining out. Dinner dates and lunch meetings offer too much temptation for the struggling dieter. Almost every time, you find yourself skipping on the healthier choice for something more delectable.

Don't worry; you are not alone. Menus in restaurant are designed to water the mouth and tempt you into trying one of their insatiable dishes. If they get you to cheat on your diet, they make money.

No matter how determined you are to say away from the fattening meal, you always fall victim to the colorful photos of the less healthy choice that is drizzled with rich sauces. Visual aids excite the brain and weaken the willpower. A study conducted by the University of Kentucky shows that participants succumbed to temptation more easily when showed pictures of food.

Even when faced with challenges like this, there are still ways to stick to your diet while dining out. There is one sure way to avoid the temptation all together. You can still enjoy a night out at a nice restaurant and stick to your diet. All you need is proper preparation and careful planning, and you are on your way to a slimmer you.

I was faced with the same temptation. Of the five day workweek, I would have to wine and dine clients at least 3 of those days. This is particularly challenging when trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Here is a trick that I have found helpful with keeping with my diet.

Before going to eat, I would find out the name of the restaurant. I would then go to the restaurant's website and view their online menu. The good thing about online menus is that there are no pictures. I would choose a meal and write down my choice. When I got to the restaurant, I didn't need to see the photo-filled menu. The temptation was cut off before it even started.

If the restaurant doesn't have a website, call them and have a menu faxed over. Most restaurants have the same type of simple menu that you would have found online ready to fax customers.

This is just one of the little things you can do to stick to your diet and become the slimmer person you want to be.
