A Great Classic Language Game to Play with Young Kids!

Language games are a great way to increase communication, vocabulary, and confidence. The following game is simple, fun, and great for addressing these kinds of things. So keep reading and discover this fantastic ways to engage your child in some language fun.

The first game is very well known and popular. It can help your child with basic concepts such as over, under, around and through. It also will help with vocabulary and auditory memory. This one is entitled 'Going on a Tiger Hunt'. Tell your child that he or she is going on a tiger hunt. Have them repeat everything you do and say. Slap your knees to a beat and chant the following:

Going on a tiger hunt (slap knees to beat)
Gonna catch a big one (show big with hands)
I am not afraid!
What's up ahead? (shade eyes with hands)

A window...

Can't go under it. (hands show 'under')
Can't go over it. (hands show 'over')
Can't go around it. (hands show "around")
Let's go through it. (open the window, shut the window)

Going on a tiger hunt.
Gonna catch an enormous one. ( show enormous)
I'm not scared.
What's up ahead? (shade eyes with hands)

A huge hill...

Can't go below it. (hands show 'below')
Can't go above it. (show 'above')
Can't go around it. (show 'around')
Let's climb up it (climb up and climb down)

Going on a tiger hunt. (Keep going with the beat!)
Gonna catch a gigantic one. (hands show 'gigantic')
I'm not frightened.
What's up ahead? (shade eyes)

Tall Tall grass...

Can't go under it. (show 'under')
Can't go over it. (show 'over')
Can't go around it. (show 'around')
Let's go through it. ( make breast stroke movements with arms)

Going on a tiger hunt.
Gonna catch a humongous one. (show 'huge')
I'm not afraid.
What's up ahead? (shade eyes)

A field of flowers...

Can't go below it. (show 'below')
Can't go above it (show 'above')
Can't go around it. (show 'around')
Let's go through it. (make walking movements with fingers)

A cave...

Let's go in it. (fingers point straight ahead)

What do you see? (act like you have binoculars)
A soft coat. (act as if you are petting something)
Round ears. (cup ears)
Long whiskers. (hands stroke whiskers)
A Tiger!....Run! (make running movements with arms)

Quick run back through field of flowers!
Hurry run back through the tall, tall grass!
Climb back up the hill!
Now quick! Jump back through the window!

Whew! (wipe off the sweat)

Well, maybe just a little bit. (fingers show 'little bit')
