A great day at Emma Prusch Farm Park in San Jose, CA
Neighborhood: Tropicana
San Jose, CA 95116
United States of America
In the heart of East San Jose, at the corner of Story and King Roads, is an entire block dedicated to the community. In 1962, Emma Prusch, a native of San Jose, bequeathed 87 acres of farmland to the City of San Jose. Of the original 87, only 47 acres remain. In this magical 47 acres of farmland, there are many places to visit and learn all about farming. Growing up in this neighborhood, I have watched this farm park grow and have visited it many times. There are many learning centers in this farm park, including the Plant Science Center and Greenhouse, a Rare Fruit Orchard and a Farm Equipment Display located near the Livestock Barn and Small Animal Area. Near the park entrance at 647 S. King Road in San Jose is the Drought Tolerant Demonstration Garden. Emma Prusch Farm Park also has two community gardens. The first, El Jardin Community Garden, is located near the corner of S. King Road and the exit ramp to King Road from Highway 680. The second, Comucopia Community Garden, is located at the corner of S. King Road and Story Road, near the Heritage Orchard and Friendship Forest.

If you have never visited this wonderful utopia, then this is the perfect time. In October they will be having an exciting Harvest Festival. This is an annual event for the community to come and learn and share all about country farm life during the harvest. There will be free entertainment from Aztec Dancers, Mariachi San Jose Youth Band and many other local talents. There will be plenty of local food and treats to enjoy. The Festival is Saturday October 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is FREE.

To find out more information on Emma Prusch Farm Park, visit their website at www.pruschfarmpark.org/ or take a drive to East San Jose and enjoy the park for yourself. This is a great place to take the kids and spend some great family time. See you there!
