The Taverns of colonial Williamsburg include Christiana Campbell's Tavern, reported to be where George Washington was a visitor on many occasions, Chowning's Tavern, which was opened in 1766 and was a gathering place for the common folk; King's Arms tavern which opened in 1972 and became one of Williamsburg most genteel places. Here visitors can savor traditional south fare; and Shields Tavern established when ownership went to James Shields from his father-in-law. While at Colonial Williamsburg a visit to Merchants Square is a must. The rich architecture of the 18th-century will make visitors feel as if they have walked back into time. Shopping and dining in the 21st-century in Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area at the Merchants Square is a must while finding gifts and other items in one of the 40 unique shops, or an exquisite meal at one of the restaurants at the Merchants Square.

Admission passes are required to enter Colonial Williamsburg exhibition sites, art museums, and most of the daytime programs. This pass includes free parking at the Visitor Center and access to a short move on Williamsburg titled "The Story of a Patriot". There is also a complimentary shuttle bus in Colonial Williamsburg.

    We almost went there for our honeymoon, but changed plans. I do want to go there someday, I hear it's beautiful, but there is very little original structure there.

    All of our children have been to Colonial Williamsburg on school trips and vacations but we have yet to visit it ourselves. cheers ;)
