The discoverers of this philosophy had a universal vision. They had concern for the entire humanity and living beings. They believed the existence of all living beings had a purpose and the interdependence ensure harmony. Environment was worshipped. Concen for humanity avoided conflicts .Love was the goal of human life and this was complemented by service. Trees were worshipped. Reverantially permission was sought before cutting trees. Birds and animals were worshipped. Men caused minimum damage to life by restricting their food needs . They believed in sustainability. Population was restricted by voluntary measures.

They realized through foresight the limitation of all material resources on this planet. They had a cautious approach to its use. Demands were kept low because needs were minimum. People were advised to take the minimum for their consumption and surpluses distributed. They did not want to burden the future generations with shortages and simple ways of living ensured this . Sustenance released resoures which otherwise would support gluttony and wastage .
Law of diminishing returns was within their grasp and vision .They advocated restraining desires leading a contented life. They knew that Indiscriminate multiplication of desires resulted in wastage of resources .

They knew that the hands of the giver were higher and considered that as a noble act. The result was the weaker sections in society got the benefits of their munificence and their wants were met. Thus there was social equality, harmony and absence of conflict. The interdependence of humanity was well recognized.

They considered values as a great resource. Their productivity was clearly known to them. This helped to build character and this in turn conserved resources, made people live with a purpose and ensure harmony. Law and order problems were absent resulting in conservation of resources . Their veneration of five elements of space, namely, space, air, fire, water, and earth ensured sustainability.

All activities were undertaken to cause the least disturbance and imbalance in environment and society.Men respected the environment in totality. They were animal lovers and worshippers. The cow and the snake were worshipped. They fed the animals seeing divinity in them. Festivals were observed for this purpose. Similarly they loved trees. Before cutting a tree they mentally sought permission from the tree. They worshipped trees. In temple premises trees were grown which presented a sacred atmosphere.

People believed in giving the maximum to society by way of contribution and taking least from society so the there was net addition to the wealth of the community. Energy and resources were conserved. The philosophy of high thinking made all resources productive and least demanding. The power of thought was recognized and emphasis on positive thinking brought good results . All actions were based on righteousness. With plain living and high thinking resting on righteousness ,support to all sections of society witnessed social harmony of an unparalleled kind. Limitations on desires and a life of contentment conserved resources and prevented hoarding of wealth . Nothing was done defying righteousness. The earth supported a sustainable population.

Thus the emphasis on the individual to live a life of simple living and high thinking sent ripples all over and the society imbibed this principle working and contributing to its stability with harmony -a model for all mankind.( To be continued)
