A Great Scholarship for Golf Caddies

A Full Tuition and Housing Scholarship for Golf Caddies

Many people may not have heard of a scholarship called the Evans Scholarship. This is a full tuition and housing scholarship that is available to golf caddies who have an excellent caddie record, financial need, excellent academics, and great character. You will have needed to caddie at least for 2 years before you are eligible to apply. People will generally apply during the fall of their senior year of high school and get recommendation letters from their caddie master and a person at their club.

Therefore, parents of students and young students who are interested in college should prepare for this scholarship and caddy over the summers as their job. The scholarship is open to both men and women and most scholarship houses have women who live in them along with men. It is better to have caddied for 4 or so years before you apply to the scholarship. You will want to develop a relationship with your caddie master and club members.

Sometimes certain golf clubs have a difficult time keeping a caddie master. Thus, you may want to find a club that keeps one for a while or develop a relationship with the golf pro at the club. You will want someone who works at the club to be able to say a good word about you.

Caddying is a difficult summer job for many. It involves waking up very early on a regular basis and working in hot conditions doing physical labor. You have to typically carry at least one golf bag for at least 18 holes. Since this is done when it is warm the weather can be hot and sunny. Thus you will need to be able to handle these conditions.

In addition, there are many skills that have to be learned to be a good caddie. You need to learn how to read greens, the rules of golf, how to walk of yardage markers, and how to effectively clean golf clubs and golf balls. It takes time and practice to understand how to become a good caddie but your caddie master can help you with this. Older caddies can also help you out.

When you start out as a golf caddie you will make much less money than the honors caddies. It may take 2 years or more to become an honors caddie and you will have to prove yourself to members and the golf club. Once you become an honors caddie you will make great money as a caddie. The only downside is sometimes it can take some time to go out and loop if it is a slow day and not many members are playing golf. This can happen when the weather is bad or it is cold out.

Becoming a golf caddie can be very rewarding and allow you to attend college on a scholarship. There are many colleges that have Evans Scholars although most of them are located in the Midwest of the United States. Starting out at a young age is the best way.
